Netflix’s Pride and Prejudice Trailer Sets Up a Candlelit Romance with Emma Corrin and Jack Lowden

The appeal of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice lies partly in how much room it leaves for new performers to shape Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy. Netflix’s first full trailer for its six-episode adaptation puts Emma Corrin and Jack Lowden at the heart of that familiar courtship, with a candlelit ballroom exchange offering the clearest glimpse yet of its romantic tension. The series arrives December 3.

A first extended look at Longbourn

Running 2 minutes and 19 seconds, the trailer opens with Austen’s celebrated line about a truth universally acknowledged before moving into the Bennet family’s world. Corrin’s Elizabeth and Freya Mavor’s Jane lie on a rooftop and talk about what lies ahead. The footage then turns to the household’s bustle, including an energetic Mrs. Bennet and the arrival of wealthy bachelors who unsettle the family’s routines.

The ballroom moment between Elizabeth and Darcy is the trailer’s most intimate beat: the pair stand close, their exchange charged but restrained by the room around them. Early reactions have called the leads’ chemistry poetic and enigmatic. That impression will matter to viewers familiar with earlier versions, since the central relationship has often been the measure by which adaptations are remembered. The trailer offers a promising mood, while leaving the fuller shape of Corrin and Lowden’s performances for the episodes themselves.

A large ensemble around the central pair

Corrin plays Elizabeth, with Lowden as the proud Mr. Darcy. Olivia Colman takes on Mrs. Bennet, whose focus on her daughters’ marriages brings comic energy to the family’s story, while Rufus Sewell plays Mr. Bennet. Mavor is Jane, and Rhea Norwood plays Lydia. Hopey Parish and Hollie Avery make their screen debuts as Mary and Kitty.

The surrounding cast includes Daryl McCormack as Mr. Bingley and Siena Kelly as Caroline Bingley, along with Louis Partridge as Mr. Wickham and Jamie Demetriou as Mr. Collins. Fiona Shaw appears as Lady Catherine de Bourg. Anjana Vasan, Isabella Sermon as Georgiana Darcy, and Rosie Cavaliero are also part of the ensemble.

Those roles give the adaptation room to balance the romance with the family’s varied personalities. The trailer’s glimpses of Longbourn suggest a lively domestic setting, while its ballroom scene shifts the tone toward private feeling and social performance. That combination is central to Austen’s story: attraction develops amid family pressures and judgments about character.

Dolly Alderton adapts all six episodes

Bestselling author Dolly Alderton, known for Everything I Know About Love, wrote all six episodes. Euros Lyn, who directed Heartstopper, directs the series. Netflix has described the adaptation as faithful to the novel, retaining its wit and social commentary while making thoughtful creative choices. A September preview welcomed viewers to Longbourn and identified Alderton as the writer behind the new version.

Alderton has said readers return to Austen’s novel because they can recognize their own feelings in it: embarrassment around family, fear of being left behind, and the worry of being misjudged. That perspective points toward an adaptation interested in the emotional life beneath the period setting. It also gives the series a clear challenge: preserving the novel’s sharp observations while making its characters feel immediate to viewers who already know the story.

Corrin also makes their debut as an executive producer on the project. Speaking to Netflix Tudum about why the story feels timely, Corrin said, “Love is what the world needs right now.” The remark frames the romance as part of the adaptation’s present-day appeal, even as the production draws on Austen’s Regency setting.

December brings another Austen adaptation

The new trailer follows the release of a recent adaptation of Sense and Sensibility, bringing another Austen story to viewers. For Pride and Prejudice, comparison with beloved past versions is inevitable. Corrin and Lowden are taking on roles with long screen histories, and the series will need to make its own case through the way its leads play attraction, pride, and first impressions.

Netflix will release all six episodes on December 3. Lookout Point is producing the series. Executive producers include Laura Lankester, Will Johnston, Louise Mutter, Alderton, Lyn, and Corrin. The trailer’s sunlit countryside and candlelit scenes offer an inviting first impression for romance fans planning an early-winter watch. The more telling test will be how the full series brings its cast, humor, and emotional stakes together across the story.
