Jennifer Lopez and Robert Zemeckis Reject Reports of a ‘The Last Mrs. Parrish’ Feud

The filmmakers deny reports of a clash over Netflix’s thriller, which stars Lopez as Daphne Parrish and is set for release in 2027.

The story around Netflix’s The Last Mrs. Parrish has shifted from its twisty premise to questions about who is shaping the finished film. Jennifer Lopez, who stars in and produces the adaptation, and director Robert Zemeckis have jointly rejected a report of conflict over the edit. Their response leaves a familiar Hollywood puzzle: anonymous accounts describe tension, while the people making the film say they’re working together.
The film adapts Liv Constantine’s bestselling novel and is expected to arrive in 2027. Its central roles bring Lopez together with Isabel May and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau in a psychological thriller about Amber Patterson, a con artist who targets wealthy socialite Daphne Parrish and her husband, Jackson. The premise puts deception and shifting loyalties at the heart of the story, making the final balance of suspense and character a natural focus of attention.
What the report claims, and what the filmmakers say
A Page Six report, citing unnamed sources, claimed Lopez had become closely involved in editing after audience screenings and had disagreed with Zemeckis about the final version. The sources portrayed her as pushing for changes and trying to take charge of the process. One suggested she was attempting to save the film.
The same report said the movie had tested poorly, but it offered no scores or details about the screenings. It also described Lopez and Zemeckis as having worked on the edit together the previous week, with another meeting planned. That combination of claims makes the story difficult to assess from the outside: it sketches disagreement, but also describes the director and producer continuing to work on the cut.
Netflix, Lopez and Zemeckis answered with a joint statement calling the reporting categorically false. They said there was no truth to the suggestion that the filmmakers weren’t working in unison. Netflix also disputed the account of audience reactions, saying the film had tested well, particularly with Lopez’s fans. Those on-record statements directly conflict with the unnamed sources, and the available information doesn’t settle which account best describes the process.
The comparison to It Ends With Us helped the story travel. That film drew attention over competing versions of its edit, and its dispute later became a prolonged legal matter that concluded with a settlement in May 2026, with no payment. But a comparison between productions doesn’t establish that their circumstances are alike. As Parade noted, producers and stars commonly give feedback on an edit; the report offered no indication of a dispute beyond the creative conflict that Lopez and Zemeckis deny.
A production with time before release
Filming for The Last Mrs. Parrish began in September 2025 in New York and New Jersey. Production wrapped a couple of days ahead of schedule in November, a detail Lopez confirmed on Instagram. The reported budget is around $100 million, and with release not expected until 2027, the film still has a substantial stretch before audiences can judge the finished result for themselves.
The cast also includes Eduardo Ramos, Pierson Fodé, Debi Mazar, Denis O’Hare and Renata Friedman. Andrea Berloff and John Gatins wrote the screenplay. Lopez produces through Nuyorican Productions alongside Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and Benny Medina, giving her a role that extends beyond playing Daphne.
That combination of acting and producing helps explain why editing has become part of the public conversation. A producer’s involvement in postproduction can include feedback and advocacy for a particular version of the film. Without details about what changes were proposed, or how the creative team assessed them, the claim that input became a feud remains difficult to verify. The joint denial is clear; the anonymous account supplies no comparable record of the alleged disagreement.
For Zemeckis, the film arrives after recent releases including Welcome to Marwen, The Witches, Pinocchio and Here failed to connect with audiences as strongly as his earlier hits, according to World of Reel. That context may make expectations around another large production especially visible, though it doesn’t tell us how this thriller will be received.
Netflix’s film and content leadership has also been changing: Peter Rice has started as content chief, replacing Bela Bajaria, and film head Dan Lin has left the company. The report arrived during that transition, but nothing in the available accounts links the personnel changes to the film’s edit.
The film will have the last word
Lopez’s work on The Last Mrs. Parrish continues her run of large Netflix projects, while the adaptation gives Zemeckis a thriller built around a socialite, a would-be infiltrator and a marriage under scrutiny. For readers of Constantine’s novel, the cast and the filmmakers’ approach to its shifting loyalties will be points of interest; for viewers coming to it fresh, the film’s suspense will depend on how much it reveals and when.
For now, the reports and the joint denial provide competing accounts, not a reliable guide to the quality of the finished film. The more useful measure will be what reaches the screen: whether the adaptation makes its characters’ motives compelling and its turns feel earned. Until its 2027 release, the clearest confirmed facts are the project’s cast, creative team and the filmmakers’ public rejection of the alleged clash.
