Cyclops’ Updated ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Visor Adds a Red Stripe to His Comic-Inspired Look

A revised Cyclops image appears to add a red stripe to James Marsden’s visor, sharpening the comic-inspired look teased for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’.

Cyclops’ Updated ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Visor Adds a Red Stripe to His Comic-Inspired Look

A narrow red stripe may be a small costume adjustment, but it changes how Cyclops reads on screen. A newly updated image of James Marsden as Scott Summers in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ appears to add the detail across the visor lens, bringing its look closer to the red glow associated with the character’s optic blasts.

The comparison is specific: an earlier frame shows a plain golden band, while the newer version appears to include the red stripe. The rest of the image looks the same, with Scott’s face scuffed and battle-worn against a smoky, fiery background. The updated image doesn’t confirm how the visor will look in every scene, but it gives fans a fresh detail to consider as they wait for Cyclops’ larger role.

Marsden is returning to the character 27 years after first playing the X-Men leader. His most recent appearance as Cyclops was a cameo in 2014’s ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’. He has called the role a homecoming and said Marvel needed little effort to persuade him to come back.

The first major glimpse of Cyclops came in the third ‘Doomsday’ teaser, released on January 6. In the footage, Scott is among the ruins of the X-Mansion when he tears off his visor and unleashes a huge red optic blast. The teaser closes with a title card promising the X-Men’s return. For viewers who have waited to see Marsden’s Cyclops command more than a brief appearance, that image suggests the film is building toward a defining moment for him.

The costume revealed at San Diego Comic-Con gives that moment a stronger visual foundation. Marsden’s suit pairs blue body armor with yellow accents, a utility belt bearing the X-Men emblem and the familiar ruby-quartz visor. Its design draws more directly on the comics than earlier live-action versions did. Fans have also pointed to a textured X pattern across the chest armor as a welcome detail; the yellow shade on the boots drew some criticism, though the overall response was strongly positive.

There’s a practical wrinkle behind the polished design. During an appearance on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’, Marsden said the suit made him feel cool and proud until he put on the visor. He could see only through a small slit, a problem that recalls his earlier complaints about the tight leather costumes in the original ‘X-Men’ films. The visor may be iconic, but wearing one that limits sight can make a long day on set harder.

Other material hints that the visor could take more than one form in the film. Promotional material for Doctor Doom’s trophy room includes a Cyclops visor among its artifacts, though that piece doesn’t appear to match the one Marsden wears in the trailer. The difference could reflect separate designs or simply different views of the character’s gear; the available images don’t settle the question.

Cyclops is also prominent in the film’s merchandise. A Hot Toys figure places him beside a destroyed Sentinel head, suggesting a clash with Doom’s robotic forces. Merchandise can offer a glimpse of the movie’s imagery, but it doesn’t establish how much of that fight will appear on screen.

Marsden is one of several Fox-era mutants returning, alongside Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Rebecca Romijn, Kelsey Grammer, Alan Cumming and Channing Tatum. They’re set to cross paths with the Avengers and the Fantastic Four as the characters face Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom. That ensemble gives Cyclops’ return a wider context: the film can draw on decades of X-Men history while placing Scott in a much larger crossover.

‘Avengers: Doomsday’ arrives in theaters on December 18. The red stripe is a modest adjustment, yet it brings the visor closer to the image many readers recognize from the comics. The teaser’s optic blast has already established the scale of Cyclops’ power; the updated look gives fans another reason to watch for how the film presents him.
