Avengers: Doomsday Presales Pass $125 Million as December Release Nears

Avengers: Doomsday has passed $125 million in reported presales, building on strong demand at home and abroad ahead of its December 18 release.

Avengers: Doomsday has passed $125 million in reported presales, putting the film within reach of a notable benchmark before its December 18 release. That pace gives Marvel a strong early signal of audience interest, though ticket sales ahead of opening weekend can’t settle how the film will perform once it reaches theaters.
A fast start that kept building
The film’s first major presale result came on July 20, when premium-format tickets became available. It took in $16.5 million on the first day across roughly 1,000 theaters in the United States, about twice the first-day presales for Deadpool & Wolverine.
Sales widened around Disney’s D23 event, and the film became the first to pass $40 million in domestic presales 100 days before release. Disney CFO Hugh Johnston later said at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia + Technology Conference that domestic sales had moved beyond $50 million. More than 70% of those sales were for Disney’s Infinity Vision premium format, a notable share for a film still weeks from opening.
The latest reported leap comes from box office account Lets Cinema, which said presales had topped $125 million. Its post gives a new snapshot of demand, but the source does not specify how much of that total comes from domestic sales versus international markets.

The milestone follows a report from Global Box Office 18 days earlier that global presales had crossed $100 million. The film also set an early overseas benchmark, becoming the fastest movie to reach $1 million in pre-release sales in Brazil and the U.K., according to the source.
Those comparisons help explain why the total has drawn attention. Avengers: Endgame had an estimated $140 million in presales, a figure Doomsday now appears to be pursuing. TheWrap also reported that, after two days of sales, Doomsday was running about 65% ahead of Spider-Man: Brand New Day. That film took roughly 40 days to reach $40 million in presales.
International demand and opening expectations
Mexico has also shown strong advance interest. One tracker reported that Doomsday’s presales there had already surpassed the full presale cycle for Deadpool & Wolverine and reached nearly 3.5 times the full run for The Fantastic Four: First Steps. The report offers a striking comparison between titles, although it doesn’t provide the underlying totals.
Early estimates put the film’s domestic opening weekend between $250 million and $300 million. That would place it among the biggest openings ever, but it remains a forecast rather than a result. Presales can indicate how many people have committed to opening days; they don’t reveal how long interest will hold or how the film will fare with viewers after release.
There’s also a high-profile scheduling clash. Doomsday opens on December 18, the same day as Dune: Part Three. In the United States, the Avengers film won’t play in IMAX for its first three weeks because Villeneuve’s film has exclusivity during that period. With more than 70% of the reported domestic presales going to Infinity Vision, those screens could matter considerably to the film’s opening.

Marketing keeps the film in view
Marvel’s promotional activity has helped sustain attention between ticket milestones. A five-hour livestream announcing the cast drew 275 million digital views and 3.1 million social mentions. Marvel titles also logged more than 420 million hours on Disney+ in August, an increase Disney linked to anticipation for Doomsday.
The campaign of promotions continues with a Dunkin’ collaboration set for November 4. The film’s draw also rests on its central premise: Robert Downey Jr. returns to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Doctor Doom, with heroes from three universes brought together. An MLB post previewed the movie with Bryce Harper, Freddie Freeman, Jacob Misiorowski, Junior Caminero and Randy Arozarena.

The $125 million figure puts Doomsday’s presale run in rare company, while the comparisons with Endgame and other Marvel releases give readers a measure of its pace. The December clash and the film’s limited early access to IMAX add uncertainty to opening-weekend forecasts. The next clear marker will be whether sales continue climbing as release day approaches.
